Jimmy Perron

Born in Isle-aux-Coudres in 1971, self-taught artist Jimmy Perron’s passion for painting began at a young age and he painted his first canvases around the age of 17. After studying at the “Ecole du Meuble de Victoriaville” he became more involved in painting which allowed him to further explore his creativity.

Jimmy Perron was fortunate to be born into a natural environment that inspires artistic development, and with his art, he continues the tradition of landscape painting in Charlevoix, yet he reveals it an original way. “I want to create a unique pictorial language where the countryside becomes a pretext for creating new forms, starting from the figurative which slowly leads towards the abstract”

Because of his insular origins, the sky and the river occupy an important place in his works, and his paintings bear witness to the life of Charlevoix, its sites and its inhabitants.  The contrasting elements of countryside and village, rural world and modernity, youth in exodus and traditional culture are all superimposed harmoniously in his work which benefits from his youthful observation.  In essence, he paints his island, its shores and its “joie de vivre”, but also the realities of everyday life.

Jimmy Perron has had several solo and group exhibitions and many of his works can be found in private collections across Quebec and Canada as well as in France, Sweden and Switzerland.
